Happy and blessed 11^th Sunday in Ordinary Time.  Today as a country we celebrate the blessings of fathers in our lives.  We ask God to shower his peace and love upon all fathers and to gather those who have died into his loving arms. St. Joseph, pray for us.

Pope St. Paul VI in the quote below reminds all fathers of the need to live their faith within the family and especially with their children in union with the mother.  “The presentation of the Gospel message is not an optional contribution for the Church. It is the duty incumbent on her by the command of the Lord Jesus, so that people can believe and be saved.”  In other words, don’t be afraid to pray with your kids.

It is always nice to quote saints, but  we can also learn a lot about fatherhood from many places.  Ken Norton, heavy weight boxing champion in 1978 shares this thought; “Of all the titles I’ve been privileged to have, ‘Dad’ has always been the best.” Every father I have spoken with, even in the most frustrating moments of raising children, has expressed this feeling.  Because fatherhood is a gift given from God and shared in the reality of life.

Chris Pratt the actor shares this thought; “I’ve jumped out of helicopters and done some daring stunts and played baseball in a professional stadium, but none of it means anything compared to being somebody’s daddy.”  Each father has many accomplishments in life, some very big and grand others simple and small, but the look of love from a son or daughter brings perspective to the pace of life.  It is the sharing of something much bigger and grander as the father and mother walk with their children in a perspective of common love in building the family.

Matthew McConaughey offers us this thought, “Never is a man more of a man than when he is the father of a newborn.”  True masculinity is not about muscles, it is about the strength of the heart and soul in knowing the divine goodness of life.  Outward strength is often easy to see and admire, but the inward desire to protect and care the vulnerable, the wife and children are act of true courage and strength.

Lastly, Pope Francis reminds us, “Fathers have to be patient.  So many times there is nothing that can be done but wait in patience, kindness, generosity and mercy, and pray. Amen.  Happy Father’s Day!

Feliz y bendecido XI Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario. Hoy como país celebramos las bendiciones de los padres en nuestras vidas. Pedimos a Dios que derrame su paz y amor sobre todos los padres y que reúna en sus amorosos brazos a los que han muerto. ¡San José, ruega por nosotros!

El Papa San Pablo VI en la cita siguiente recuerda a todos los padres la necesidad de vivir su fe dentro de la familia y especialmente con sus hijos en unión con la madre: “La presentación del mensaje del Evangelio no es un aporte opcional para la Iglesia. Es el deber que le corresponde a ella por mandato del Señor Jesús, para que las personas puedan creer y salvarse”. En otras palabras, no tengas miedo de orar con tus hijos.

Siempre es bueno citar santos, pero también podemos aprender bastante sobre la paternidad en muchos lugares: Ken Norton, campeón de boxeo de peso pesado en 1978 comparte este pensamiento; "De todos los títulos que he tenido el privilegio de tener, el de 'Papá' siempre ha sido el mejor". Todos los padres con los que he hablado, incluso en los momentos más frustrantes de la crianza de los hijos, han expresado este sentimiento. Porque la paternidad es un don dado por Dios y compartido en la realidad de la vida.

Chris Pratt, actor, comparte este pensamiento: “Salté de helicópteros, hice algunas acrobacias atrevidas y jugué béisbol en un estadio profesional, pero nada de eso significa algo comparado con ser el papá de alguien”. Cada padre tiene muchos logros en la vida, algunos muy grandes y grandiosos, otros simples y pequeños, pero la mirada de amor de un hijo o una hija aporta perspectiva al ritmo de la vida. Es compartir algo mucho más grande y grandioso cuando el padre y la madre caminan con sus hijos en una perspectiva de amor común en la construcción de la familia.

Matthew McConaughey nos ofrece este pensamiento: "Nunca un hombre es más hombre que cuando es padre de un recién nacido". La verdadera masculinidad no se trata de músculos, se trata de la fuerza del corazón y del alma para conocer la bondad divina de la vida. La fuerza exterior es a menudo fácil de ver y admirar, pero el deseo interior de proteger y cuidar a los vulnerables, la esposa y los hijos, es un acto de verdadera valentía y fuerza.

Por último, el Papa Francisco nos recuerda: “Los padres deben tener paciencia. Muchas veces no se puede hacer nada más que esperar con paciencia, bondad, generosidad y misericordia, y orar”. Amén.  ¡Feliz Día del Padre!
