Joyous Feast of the Epiphany of our Lord.  Catholic Tradition tells us this is the final day of the twelve days of Christmas. Yes, this is a real thing, but more importantly it is the celebration of the Three Wise Men, the Three Kings, the Magi from the East arriving in Bethlehem to bring the gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh to offer to the new born King of the Jews. A fun fact, we don’t know exactly how many Magi there were  but we normally associate the number being three because of the gifts given. 

The Feast of the Epiphany is also the day when we traditionally bless the door that is the main entrance into our house.  

“The Epiphany blessing is a simple blessing written on your door as follows: the first two digits of the year + C + M + B + the last two digits of the new year. So, today, it would look like this: 20 + C + M + B + 25. The C M B serves two meanings: 1) The initials of the wise men. 2) The first letters of the Latin phrase: Christus mansionem benedicat: May Christ bless the house. (bustedhalo.com)

We will provide you the blessing and some chalk that has been blessed if you wish to celebrate this tradition. 

Someone once asked me what was the most impactful verse in the Gospels, outside the Passion Narrative, my response comes from todays Gospel reading, “And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed for their country by another way.” (Mt 2:12)

This simple phrase reminds us, that when we encounter the person of Jesus Christ, a profound and life changing act occurs and we in that moment must choose to go another way.  If we believe we must change direction, enter into the day-by-day conversion leading us ever closer to the presence of God in our journey of life. 

This will be the gift of our Christmas book 33 Days to Eucharistic Glory that was given out at Christmas.  Today we will begin the journey of discovering the blessings of God’s presence in the Eucharist in our lives.  If you have already begun, I ask you to begin again.  Reading each day carefully, taking at least 10 minutes each day to ponder the words read.Take your time, you have 33 days, and let this time of prayer sink in and bring us to the conversion of life.

Feliz Fiesta de la Epifanía de nuestro Señor.  La tradición católica nos dice que este es el último día de los doce días de Navidad. Sí, esto es verdad, pero lo más importante es que celebramos a los Tres Reyes Magos. Los Reyes Magos que vienen de Oriente y llegan a Belén, trayendo regalos de Oro, Incienso y Mirra para ofrecerlos al recién nacido Rey de los judíos.  Un dato curioso, es que no sabemos exactamente cuántos Reyes Magos eran, pero normalmente los asociamos con el número tres, debido a los regalos que dieron.

La Fiesta de la Epifanía es también el día en que tradicionalmente bendecimos la puerta principal, que es la entrada a nuestra casa.

“La bendición de la Epifanía es simple y se escribe en la puerta de la siguiente manera: los dos primeros dígitos del año + C + M + B + los dos últimos dígitos del nuevo año. Por lo que el día de hoy, se vería así: 20 + C + M + B + 25. El C M B tiene dos significados: 1) Las iniciales de los reyes magos: Gaspar (Caspar en latín), Melchor y Baltazar.  2) La abreviatura de las palabras en latín: “Christus mansionem benedicat”, que significa: “¡Que Cristo bendiga esta casa!” (bustedhalo.com)

Te proporcionaremos la bendición y un poco de tiza bendecida si deseas celebrar esta tradición.

Una vez, alguien me preguntó cuál era el versículo más impactante de los Evangelios, además del relato de la Pasión. Mi respuesta proviene de la lectura del Evangelio de hoy: “Y, habiendo sido avisados en sueños de que no volvieran a Herodes, regresaron a su país por otro camino” (Mt 2,12).  Esta simple frase nos recuerda que, cuando nos encontramos con la persona de Jesucristo, ocurre un acto profundo que cambia la vida y en ese momento debemos elegir ir por otro camino. Si creemos que debemos cambiar de dirección, entremos en la conversión día a día que nos acerca cada vez más a la presencia de Dios en nuestro viaje de la vida.

Este será el regalo de nuestro libro navideño 33 días hacia la gloria eucarística que se entregó en Navidad. Hoy comenzaremos el viaje para descubrir en nuestras vidas, todas las bendiciones de la presencia de Dios en la Eucaristía. Si ya has iniciado, te pido que comiences de nuevo. Lee cada día con atención, dedicando al menos 10 minutos para reflexionar sobre las palabras leídas. Tómate tu tiempo, tienes 33 días, y deja que este tiempo de oración penetre en nosotros y nos lleve a la conversión de nuestra vida.
