Happy and joyous celebration of the Baptism of the Lord!  Today is a time to reflect on our own Baptism and the grace given and shared as family gathers to renew their faith, as the child (or adult) enters into the joyous relationship with God through the Holy Catholic Church.

One of the promises the parents, godparents, family and the entire Church makes when someone is baptized is our willingness to support the person in their journey of faith.  To be models and exemplars of what it means to be a Christian.  Each new year I am reminded of this when I read in the Liturgy of the Hours on January 2nd this beautiful reflection of  St. Gregory Nazianzen on his friend St. Basil the Great.  He writes that in our baptism the singular desire is the one true desire, “Different men have different names, which the owe their parents or to themselves, that is, to their own pursuits and achievements.  But our great pursuit, the great name we wanted, was to be Christians, to be called Christians.”

Is this our desire in life?  Is this what we desire for our children, our neighbor, every person we meet?  This is what we promise at every baptism and each and every time we recite the Creed in Mass, praying the Rosary or on multiple occasions in our life.  

To profess our Christian faith, through our baptism, is to desire this unique relationship with God in the Most Holy Trinity. Part of this unique relationship is living within the Catholic Church a sacramental life.  To participate in the fullness of God’s blessings in receiving the Sacraments.  Most Roman Catholics will normally receive six of the seven Sacraments (a few will receive all seven, bonus point if you can name who these people are.) This is one of the reasons we choose to offer you the gifts of 33 Days to Eucharistic Glory this past Christmas.

Many of you have already shared how much you are enjoying the book.  This Sunday, on the Baptism of the Lord, we will begin to look at this great prayer of the Church and reflect  in our “3 Minute Catechesis” our journey of faith in receiving the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus in the Eucharist.  I hope you enjoy the journey!

¡Feliz y gozosa celebración del Bautismo del Señor! Hoy es tiempo de reflexionar sobre nuestro propio Bautismo y la gracia que se nos da y comparte cuando la familia se reúne para renovar su fe, cuando el niño (o el adulto) entra en la alegre relación con Dios a través de la Santa Iglesia Católica.

Una de las promesas que hacen los padres, los padrinos, la familia y la Iglesia entera cuando alguien se bautiza, es la voluntad de apoyar a la persona que se bautiza en su camino de fe. Ser modelos y ejemplos de lo que significa ser cristiano. Cada año nuevo, me acuerdo de esto, cuando leo en la Liturgia de las horas del dos de enero, esta hermosa reflexión de San Gregorio Nacianceno sobre su amigo San Basilio el Grande. El escribe que en nuestro bautismo el solo deseo es el único deseo verdadero: “Diferentes hombres tienen diferentes nombres, que deben a sus padres o a sí mismos, es decir, a sus propias búsquedas y logros. Pero nuestra gran búsqueda, el gran nombre que deseábamos, era ser cristianos, ser llamados cristianos”.

¿Es este nuestro deseo en la vida? ¿Es esto lo que deseamos para nuestros hijos, nuestro prójimo, cada persona que conocemos? Esto es lo que prometemos en cada bautismo y cada vez que recitamos el Credo en la Misa, rezamos el Rosario o en múltiples ocasiones en nuestra vida.

Profesar nuestra fe cristiana, a través de nuestro bautismo, es desear esta relación única con Dios en la Santísima Trinidad. Parte de esta relación única es vivir dentro de la Iglesia Católica una vida sacramental. Participar en la plenitud de las bendiciones de Dios al recibir los Sacramentos. La mayoría de los católicos romanos normalmente recibirán seis de los siete Sacramentos (algunos recibirán los siete, punto extra si puede nombrar a estas personas). Esta es una de las razones por las que, en Navidad, elegimos ofrecerles los regalos de 33 días hacia la gloria eucarística.

Muchos de ustedes ya nos han compartido, el cuánto están disfrutando del libro. Este domingo, que celebramos el Bautismo del Señor, comenzaremos a observar esta gran oración de la Iglesia y reflexionaremos en nuestra “Catequesis de 3 minutos” sobre nuestro camino de fe al recibir el Cuerpo y la Sangre de nuestro Señor Jesús en la Eucaristía. ¡Espero que disfruten del camino!
