"Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest.” (Lk 19:38) Today throughout the world the Church proclaims the beginning of Holy Week.  Jesus enters Jerusalem this day and quickly journeys through the week to death on the Cross. We then celebrate with joy the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Easter morning.  

We are reminded in the teaching of the Church how Jesus died for the sins of the world,  (#606 in the Catechism) so we may be saved.  As we come into our church with great joy and songs of jubilation, we are also reminded by the Crucifix above our altar how quickly sin can change our life and journey.  As the Little Black Book has challenged us to see our faith in a deeper more personal way, it also reminds us how we are part of a greater community, the Body of Christ.  This is what we are challenged to understand this Sunday; the Body of Christ is holy and full of hope, but it is also wounded and in need of healing.  Jesus, in his sacrificial love, challenges us to this same sacrifice of healing in both giving and receiving this gift of life. 

My challenge for you this week is to choose one of the four Passion Narratives, perhaps the one we hear today, and read it slowing and prayerfully each day as we open our hearts fully to the presence of Jesus in our lives. 

I know I can sound like a broken record, but…Please make the effort to reach out to someone and invite them to our Easter Masses.  The schedule is in the bulletin and website.  This is a wonderful opportunity to share our faith.  It is uncomfortable to do this the first or the one-hundredth time, but it is part of our call to evangelization to our family, neighbor and friends. 

Lastly, we have talked a lot about our pastoral plan and we will begin sharing in the bulletin about what the Implementation Team is doing and how you can help us.  Our first big activity will be a return to something the parish did in the past, which is to have a “Ministry Day” fair as a way of connecting parishioners into an existing or new ministry.   More information to follow.

“¡Bendito el Rey que viene en el nombre del Señor! Paz en el cielo y gloria en las alturas.” (Lc 19,38) Hoy, en todo el mundo, la Iglesia proclama el inicio de la Semana Santa. Jesús entra en Jerusalén este día y recorre rápidamente la semana hasta su muerte en la cruz. Luego, celebramos con alegría la Resurrección de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo en la mañana de Pascua.

La enseñanza de la Iglesia nos recuerda cómo Jesús murió por los pecados del mundo (Catecismo N°.606) para que seamos salvos. Al entrar en nuestra iglesia con gran alegría y cantos de júbilo, el Crucifijo sobre nuestro altar también nos recuerda la rapidez con la que el pecado puede cambiar nuestra vida y nuestro camino.  Así como el librito Negro nos ha desafiado para ver nuestra fe de una manera más profunda y personal, también nos recuerda que formamos parte de una comunidad mayor: el Cuerpo de Cristo. Esto es lo que se nos desafía a comprender este domingo: el Cuerpo de Cristo es santo y lleno de esperanza, pero también está herido y necesita sanación. Jesús, en su amor sacrificial, nos reta a este mismo sacrificio de sanación, tanto al dar como al recibir el don de la vida.

Mi reto para ustedes esta semana es elegir uno de los cuatro Relatos de la Pasión, quizás el que escuchamos hoy, y leerlo con calma y oración cada día, abriendo plenamente nuestro corazón a la presencia de Jesús en nuestras vidas.

Sé que puedo sonar como un disco rayado, pero… Por favor, hagan el esfuerzo de contactar a alguien e invitarlo a nuestras Misas de Pascua. El horario está en el boletín y en el sitio web.  Esta es una maravillosa oportunidad para compartir nuestra fe. Es incómodo hacerlo la primera o la centésima vez, pero es parte de nuestro llamado a la evangelización con nuestra familia, vecinos y amigos.

Por último, hemos hablado mucho sobre nuestro plan pastoral y comenzaremos a compartir en el boletín sobre lo que está haciendo el Equipo de Implementación y cómo pueden ayudarnos. Nuestra primera gran actividad será retomar algo que la parroquia ya hacía: organizar una feria del "Día del Ministerio" para conectar a los feligreses con un ministerio ya existente o uno nuevo. Próximamente les daremos más información.
