Happy Pentecost Sunday!  Come Holy Spirit! Happy Birthday, Catholic Church!

We all know the simple Holy Spirit Prayer:

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created,
and you shall renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray:

O God, who have taught the hearts of the faithful
by the light of the Holy Spirit,
grant that in the same Spirit we may be truly wise
and ever rejoice in his consolation.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Today, Pentecost Sunday, as we celebrate the birthday of the Church we are reminded how powerful the Holy Spirit is in our lives. Come Holy Spirit! We ask the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts.  We ask that the fire of love burn in our hearts.  We ask the Holy Spirit be sent forth and renew the face of the earth.  Come Holy Spirit!

When we pray this prayer and allow the Holy Spirit to dwell in our hearts, we also acknowledge the Holy Spirit being sent forth is the sending forth of all the baptized in the world. Come Holy Spirit! The Holy Spirit working through each one of us is the renewal of the Kingdom of God, the “face of the earth.”  Are we ready for the challenge of being sent forth?

In the next few weeks we will begin talking about how we will seek to renew our parish and grow in faith, hope and love in serving our neighbor.  The second part of the prayer is a reminder of how the Holy Spirit will fill us with wisdom and truth in following our Lord Jesus Christ.

We also celebrate this May 29th Memorial Day in the United States.  We pray for all those who have died in defense of our country and for the many families affected by the reality of a son or daughter, father or mother who has died and will never return home.  Let us pray through the power of the Holy Spirit that we all may be witnesses who strive for peace in our world.

¡Feliz Domingo de Pentecostés! ¡Ven, Espíritu Santo! ¡Feliz cumpleaños a la Iglesia Católica!

Todos conocemos la sencilla Oración del Espíritu Santo:

Ven Espíritu Santo, llena los corazones de tus fieles.
Y enciende en ellos el fuego de tu amor.
Envía Señor tu Espíritu y serán creadas  todas las cosas.
Y renovarás la faz de la tierra.

Oremos:

¡Oh, Dios, que has instruido
los corazones de tus fieles
con luz del Espíritu Santo!,
concédenos que sintamos rectamente
con el mismo Espíritu
y gocemos siempre de su divino consuelo.
Por Jesucristo Nuestro Señor.

Amén.

Hoy, Domingo de Pentecostés, al celebrar el cumpleaños de la Iglesia, se nos recuerda cuán poderoso es el Espíritu Santo en nuestras vidas. ¡Ven, espíritu santo! Pedimos al Espíritu Santo que llene nuestros corazones. Pedimos que el fuego del amor arda en nuestros corazones. Pedimos que el Espíritu Santo sea enviado y renueve la faz de la tierra. ¡Ven, espíritu santo!

Cuando rezamos esta oración y permitimos que el Espíritu Santo habite en nuestros corazones, también reconocemos que el Espíritu Santo que se recibe, es el envío de todos los bautizados en el mundo. ¡Ven, espíritu santo! El Espíritu Santo obrando a través de cada uno de nosotros es la renovación del Reino de Dios, la “faz de la tierra.” ¿Estamos preparados para el desafío de ser enviados?

En las próximas semanas comenzaremos a hablar sobre cómo buscaremos renovar nuestra parroquia y crecer en la fe, la esperanza y el amor al servicio de nuestro prójimo. La segunda parte de la oración es un recordatorio de cómo el Espíritu Santo nos llenará de sabiduría y verdad en el seguimiento de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

También celebramos este 29 de mayo el Día de los Caídos en combate en los Estados Unidos. Oramos por todos los que han muerto en defensa de nuestro país y por las muchas familias afectadas por la realidad de un hijo o hija, padre o madre que ha muerto y nunca volverá a casa. Oremos por el poder del Espíritu Santo para que todos seamos testigos que luchan por la paz en nuestro mundo.
